Someone familiar with prototyping in Figma and using Lottie may ask - “Why not just use the Lottie to Figma plugin to create animations, considering you create them first in Figma anyway”

Man I wish it was this straightforward.

This is about an animation created using Figma and exported to a Lottie file.

In short, it’s totally possible and fine to make animations using Figma and then export to Lottie. Just be prepared for:

Once you work out some of the quirks of exporting, you can start to see behind the curtains and understand how it’s working. But there is a very large difference between it working in Figma’s prototype and it working in Lottie.

Here are a couple of examples of the file not performing quite as expected:
